The Joy Of….Unfinished Business
What does it mean when someone says they have “unfinished business?” It could be something small like a pile of paperwork that needs some attention or a bedroom that still needs to be painted. Perhaps it is something more significant like finishing a college degree, repairing a fractured relationship, or changing careers. It can feel stressful, scary, or overwhelming to think about.
What if we turned that thinking upside-down and inside-out? What if we could eagerly anticipate the sense of accomplishment, and perhaps even the joy, of finally taking care of that unfinished business? We all arrive at points in our lives when we are just ready to get started, make progress, and finally get stuff done. Maybe you have been dreaming about moving to a new city? Perhaps you have worked diligently for years at the office and are ready to make a move to the executive ranks? What about almost all of us who just want to lose that last 10 (or 25 or 50) pounds?
As for me, I turn 54 in September. Boy, did that happen faster than I ever expected! I have had a wonderful first half-century of life surrounded by my family and friends, grateful for an incredible career and education, and living each day in abundance and love. But, I came to realize that I had unfinished business. I was at that proverbial fork in the road. I could choose to ignore my unfinished business, sit on my laurels, dream but never take action, etc. Or, I could choose the joy of understanding and embracing my unfinished business, aspiring to something new/better/different, finally taking care of my business, and thriving in the new/better/different that I created. Fortunately, I had a good kind of unfinished business.
What was my unfinished business? You probably aren’t aware of this, but by reading this post you have already joined me in taking care of my first piece of business. I launched my own company, Wild Blue Services, which is focused on coaching and advising amazing people just like you to aspire and achieve their wildest dreams. After a career working for others (for which I am so very grateful), I am now an entrepreneur, building my own business on my own terms. Holy smokes! This feels amazing! And, I have another piece of unfinished business that I am working on that I will share with you in a future post!
